Specialized’s PRO Fit 2 retention device is the only one on test with any vertical adjustment. Rather than simply adjusting the circumference and gripping a pre-destined area at the base of the skull, the height of the strap can be altered to make sure it grips below the major skull bulges, making for a perfect fit. A particularly oval shape suits those with similarly shaped skulls, rather than more rounded ones.
With internal channelling at a similar depth to the Giro and Uvex, ventilation is good, and the rear exhaust ports are particularly good, keeping the back of the head cool. Twin anchor points for the straps at the rear reduce the amount of twisting on the straps, but overall they are let down by the Y-anchors: the locking mechanism is completely ineffective and they gradually slide down.
