Despite being better known as a downhill clothing brand, The Explorer jacket is a great example of Royal’s expansion into trail riding clobber.
Small and stowable, the Explorer sports strengthened shoulder panels and a non-rattling, snap-down zipper. There’s even an emergency info panel, ready for you to fill out with pertinent facts: a nice idea not to dwell on!
With a lining visually similar to the Helly and Vaude jackets, it’s not surprising the Royal performs well and, with more pub-friendly tailoring (apart from the big reflective logos) than other cycle-specific jackets, it does seem reasonable value.
