Previous Howies jackets have been a little too square-cut for optimum saddle-borne performance, but the Slate River is cut for more active pursuits, without being super snug. There’s plenty of room for layers, without too much flapping fabric. Reflective trim matches the accent-coloured detail and the excellent, tactile, rubber wrist closure.
Vented mesh pockets negate the need for pit-zips and the 2.5-layer fabric breathes well enough without being class leading. Waterproof zips and pockets keep the elements out and with the new tailoring, Howies has got closer to the mark.
