This is one of our all time favourite headsets simply because it has a split crown race, which allows us to fit any number of forks to the same frame without resorting to tools. The forged and CNC machined 7075/T6 aluminium cups hold Japanese stainless steel, angular contact bearings. The top cover actually wraps right over the upper bearing protecting it. Unfortunately the lower seal isn’t as good; it’s plastic, not a tight fit and can deform if you pull the headset apart regularly. Not that it’s anything to worry about because the headset is guaranteed for a decade.
If you’re looking for a low-stack headset for a long-travel trail bike, or just want something that will last but won’t break the bank, this is the headset we’d recommend.
