Modelled on the Race Face pads, the Brand X DH Knee/Shins offer a very high level of protection, but the flipside is that they are a bit bulky, with the hockey player look being mentioned more than once. The full-length lower leg protection stops the pads sliding down your legs when pedalling, but fitting isn’t as easy as some, with the mesh backing having a tendency to end up in a Velcro tangle, and it is nowhere near as secure a fit as the straps and D-loops on the Race Face pads. We had some initial chafing, but at almost half the price of the Race Face pads, these still offer unbeatable value for money.
