We are delighted to say none of us tried the back protector in anger, but it was comforting to know it was there when we were ploughing through rocky terrain. This is backed up by a wide, wrap-around neoprene belt that adds that little extra feeling of security when snugged up at the top of a descent. A neat option is the fully zip-removable back, allowing the protector to be used on its own.

It does come with quite a weight penalty, but if you are riding hard and taking risks, the Evoc could be the pack for you.
