Only affordability stops the Smith Optics Forefront helmet from getting top marks.
Smith Optics Forefront helmet review
Arguably the most cutting-edge helmet around, the Forefront displays exceptional build quality throughout. It uses a honeycomb structure built around short plastic tubes that sit perpendicular to the head and a carbon veneer framework that holds the two outer shell halves together.
Adjustability and comfort is excellent, and best of all, the Forefront is outstanding at quickly removing any heat, effectively absorbing sweat into the matrix of tiny tubes.
An integrated goggle hook and light/camera mount, two-position peak (with satisfying click action) are absolutely spot-on, as are the straps, padding and webbing.

The sky-high price might be prohibitive, and it’s still unclear how the short plastic tubes would cope with a constant splattering of UK winter gloop. However, if this technology trickles down to a more affordable price point, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this helmet boom in popularity very quickly.
If it were more affordable, it would definitely get top marks — it really is that good.
