Cheaper than the Bell Super 2.0, the Stoker has 13 airflow vents in its rounded shell, but you’ll need to buy the more expensive helmet for Bell’s superior cooling design with four integrated brow ports.

The Stoker gets the impact-reducing MIPS rotating liner for less than most lids without it, and the helmet is also available for £65 without the technology. The thin plastic MIPS layer does make the helmet run marginally hotter, and together with less absorbent padding, the Stoker is considerably steamier than its big brother and more sweat dribbled into our eyes on hot days.

The Stoker is quite wide and bowl-like inside, but fits comfortably and is a competitive weight. The adjustable visor can’t be tightened at the sides and gradually wobbles down into view, while the polystyrene liner is exposed along the underside and quickly suffered some scruffy dings — these two things detract from a lid that represents great value considering the MIPS technology.
