With barely any climbing and just 11km long, this Clwydian Hills route looks a pushover. But the reality is a bite-size chunk of genuinely great MTBing.

Distance: 35km (22 miles). There’s something magical about climbing up into high mountains, and they don’t get much higher this Brecon Beacons route.

Don’t underestimate the severity of this Elan Valley route; it has more ups and downs than the Welsh rugby team and hass plenty of technical interest too.

This Gower route is stuffed with a great network of trails — many of which offer superb views over the coast.
