There are two major things wrong with the Univega — the massively oversized front end and solid rear triangle mean the super stiff frame is incredibly harsh to ride and its geometry is seriously out of whack. Frame angles are too steep and the front end of the bike is very short. These conspire to place all of your weight on the front wheel: scary stuff. It may have the best kit on test, but don’t be drawn, magpie-like, by the sparkly stuff. No amount of money can turn this bike’s fortunes around. It’s a classic example of silk purses and sow’s ears.
