Every few years Sweet Protection Hunter shorts go through a little rework, a nip and tuck to keep it on trend and firmly in place as one of the best shorts on the market. This time around the popper fastener has gone, in its place you get a velcro strap, while the velcro waist adjustments that used to sit on your hips have been replaced by a nylon belt just above the zippered fly. This is a much better design, it’s easier to adjust the fit and now there’s no velcro to hook up on your jersey.

The pockets have moved around too, you get two open ones for your hands, and two zippered ones down the thigh. On top of that there are now zippered thigh vents to let off some steam on hot days.

The Sweet Protection Hunter shorts have three flaws, the first is they come up slightly big. No problem, just buy one size smaller. The second is I want a zippered pocket higher up – as it stands, the low thigh position lets your key or phone whack into your leg. Finally, £120 is a lot of money for a short without a chamois liner.
