Works really well as lightweight, packable, all-day jacket
Pearl Izumi MTB WRX jacket review
Pearl Izumi MTB WRX is a 300g jacket with a fixed hood that would be as useful as an all-day jacket as it would a lightweight, packable waterproof.

There’s definitely a dedicated mtb feel to this jacket, with a slightly more relaxed fit than most – especially in the sleeves to allow for pads. And the 2.5 layer fabric feels pretty tough – useful for all day wear where pack straps will take their toll.
In action, the WRX kept plenty of rain at bay and breathed well enough, though the slightly rubbery feel on the backer fabric meant it did feel sticky when wet against bare skin when wearing short sleeves.
It has vents beneath the arms and on the hood, although as you’d expect, the hood soon got too hot when pedalling hard.
The sleeves just about pulled up too, which is useful for cooling down. The fixed hood is cavernous – easily big enough to deal with an all-mountain style helmet – but it doesn’t roll away anywhere so flaps a bit in the wind.
Sizewise, the Large tested was probably the biggest here, so size down if you’re on the cusp. This also made the hem, which has no adjustment, a little loose – great for spilling heat, less useful when you’re trying to keep it trapped.
All round a great jacket if you want one jacket for all, especially if you wear pads.
