Pump it up
The MBR Puncture Pitstop Challenge. It’s pretty simple; each competitor is timed against the clock to see how quickly they can replace a punctured tube.
Everyone loves a bit of friendly competition, especially the hyper competitive staff here at MBR. And if that challenge might possibly end in a bit of humiliation then that’s all good. So ladies and gentlemen, we bring you the inaugural MBR Puncture Pitstop Challenge.
To mix things up we opened up the challenge to our drop-barred colleagues at Cycling Weekly to see if they could do any better. And here’s how the drama unfolded.
So yep, each competitor is timed against the clock to see how quickly they can replace a punctured tube. The fastest gets out of making the tea for a week, whilst the slowest faces an intensive rehabilitation course consisting of watching our step by step guide to fixing a puncture over and over again, à la A Clockwork Orange.
To make things fair and above board a few basic rules are enforced. Everyone is to use the same pump, optional tyre levers and a new tube. The tyre needs to be pumped to 20psi (checked with a Lezyne Digital Alloy Drive pump). All lockrings, valve caps and detritus has to be put back in the pack before the timer is stopped.
