The Lumicycle Explorer 2 differs  from the previous model by utilising only one LED at the lower power levels to save on power and extend burn times.

It is also slightly bulkier to help with cooling and now sports a white diffuser ring around the lens for side on visibility in traffic. Otherwise it is the same, solid performer as always.

Beam pattern is a centre hotspot with well diffused peripherals, not quite as smooth and wide as the Seca or Exposure, but perfectly acceptable nonetheless.

Lumicycle have also worked on the beam colour for the Explorer 2, cooling it with more blue and green in the spectrum, which noticeably helps with definition – particularly on wet and grubby nights.

The Light and Motion Seca shares the same colour temperature and we liked it there too.

Using only one LED at the lower power levels does render the beam pattern a little more ‘bitty,’ with dark patches sneaking in here and there, but if you are down at that level it is unlikely this will cause concern as you are probably on the road or riding more slowly.

The battery pack is small and unobtrusive, the cabling just right for most bikes without needing excess to be dealt with and the mount is easily removed each night.

The set we got didn’t come with a 35mm adaptor, but we are assured by Lumicycle all we need is an extra extender to the bracket (£4) which will cope with the extra diameter – just make sure you order this extra if you need it.
