CNC finished 6061 aluminium stem at a bargain price.
Race Face Aeffect 35 stem review
The Aeffect 35 is only available down to 50mm, so if you’re after a super-stubby model you will need to look elsewhere.
>>> The best mountain bike stems
The same stem originally came on a test bike we’ve put a lot of miles into, and, aside from the black anodised bolts starting to scratch up a little quickly, there’s nothing to grumble about it in terms of function.
All six bolts being 4mm requires only one Allen key, which speeds up installation.
The Aeffect uses a similar interlocking faceplate design as Race Face’s premium Atlas and Turbine lines, but lacks the flashy graphics and shaping (and associated boutique price tags).
Somewhat ironically though, we’re convinced it actually feels stiffer and more solid on the bike.
There’s great responsiveness in steering and there’s not too much of a weight penalty, either, over the higher-end products.
If you’re after a chunky, rock-solid stem for a 35mm bar at a good price, and 50mm or longer suits your needs, this is a workhorse product and easily the best value stem on test.
