Made in the UK from 6061 T6-series aluminium, the Enduro MK2 is Burgtec’s second-generation trail and all-mountain stem accommodating both bar sizes.

Burgtec does most of the machining internally, so the exterior retains the smooth-edged, knee-friendly and blocky shape of the earlier Mk1.

It’s much more refined, and around 30 per cent lighter, and, thanks in part to a new steerer clamp design, is also available in a shorter 35mm length.

The overall size is small, but with the faceplate and sides of the stem being fully intact, it still looks beefy.

Significant CNC shaving has removed circular pockets of material from the thicker ‘band’ of alloy that wraps the handlebars and fixes them in place.

This saves substantial weight, and Burgtec says it has machined as much as possible without losing rigidity.

All fixing bolts are 4mm Allen heads for easier, single-tool installation, and during testing stem security was faultless, with no movement or creaking at any fastening point.

Overall stiffness and resistance to twisting is decent, but it’s not quite as rock-solid as some stems here when mated with 800mm-wide handlebars.
