2016 was a momentous year in the history of Downhill racing and here’s a book all about it stuffed with great pics and features.

Hurly Burly – The Downhill Year Book is the combined effort of many people, headed up by James McKnight.

What’s in it? 200 pages of hit-by-hit accounts of the 2016 World Cup series and World Championships, with photography by Sven Martin, Sebastian Schieck and Duncan Philpott and contributions from a selection of writers and industry insiders.

We had a quick word with the Hurly Burly men…

Why did you make this book?

James McKnight: “We (Chris Jones, Sven Martin, Sebastian Schieck, Duncan Philpott and I) put the book together to commemorate a huge season in downhill’s history. New faces winning races, Rachel Atherton dominating, Steve Peat retiring… There were so many highs and lows.”

What’s your favourite feature and photo?

JM: “Nigel Reeve’s (Stevie Smith’s mechanic) insight into the behind the scenes of their last World Cup podium together has to be read. Every race has a small side-story like that to go with it and I really liked reading those personal and sometimes heartfelt accounts.

“Photo-wise, the opening shot of Remi Thirion screaming down Lenzerheide in full attack is one of my favourites. There were so many great shots from the three photogs that choosing what to include and what not to include was seriously difficult!”

Will there be 2017 Year Book?

JM: “Yes there will definitely be another even better version in 2017! I’m already working on it.”
