A pick of the best imagery from the past week racing in the Andes. Photos from Sven Martin, Gary Perkin and Claudio Olguin
The Andes Pacifico returned for its third year in 2016 and it was as gorgeous as ever.
The race was won by Tracey Moseley and Francois Billy-Maitre but it will no doubt be remembered more as an epic adventure on some of the best trails the Andes have to offer. 100 lucky competitors took in a route that included 12,000 metres of descending in five days through some of the most brutal terrain known to man.
Here are some of the best photos of the event:
Tracey Moseley
New year, same old Tracey. Moseley was on unstoppable form once again and she cleaned up the women’s field by 12 minutes

The rise of Mark Scott
Young Brit Mark Scott finished in the top three everyday and claimed second overall. His move to Santa Cruz is clearly suiting him well

Shredding Marshals
This may look like some sort of exotic bird, but look closer and you’ll see it’s a humble marshal with his flags.

The wine is fine
The Colchagua Valley is famous for its wine production so what self respecting race wouldn’t pay a cheeky visit to a winery
Ending the show with some Merlot
The riders certainly appreciated some alternative post-ride refreshment
Francois Billy Maitre
Francois Billy Maitre was in imperious form all week. He took the overall by 20 seconds.

Jerome Clementz lends a hand
It’s not all fierce competition at the Andes Pacifico, here Jerome Clementz lends a hand to a fellow competitor

Tracey Moseley feeling at home
It’s not all dust and arid landscapes in Chile. Here’s Moseley showing off its greener side

Casualties of battle
Unfortunately not every rider made it through unscathed. Anka Martin had to pull out on day 2 after an injury.
End of the road
This is what riders were greeted with at the end of five days’ hard racing. Not bad.
Until next year
Another amazing Andes Pacifico, we already can’t wait for next year’s event
