Twitter and GoPro have teamed up to allow you to live stream your helmet cam footage.

The Twitter-owned Periscope app will connect with your GoPro and offer you the opportunity to host a live stream from your camera. This can then be sent out to anyone who follows you on Twitter. The footage will also be recorded on the camera as well so you can use it later.

The feature is currently only available on the Hero4 Black or Hero4 Silver cameras and there is no mention of an Android compatibility at this time. Periscope does allow you to chat to anyone who is watching, although we wouldn’t recommend this if you are actually riding.

Here comes the really exciting news though, GoPro will be launching this feature by live streaming from the XGames snowboarding event on Wednesday. While this in itself may not excite you, it does show that GoPro has the intention of moving into livestreaming of action sports. Can you imagine how great this could make coverage of mountain bike races? Especially when it is complemented by follow-drone technology.

This news has come at a perfect time for both companies as GoPro’s stock tumbled earlier in the month and watershed moments like #Drummondpuddlewatch have shown the potential for live streaming via Periscope.

The feature went live on Tuesday and is available for free now.
