Quick and fast rolling, the Slant is a big tyre and offers decent braking grip but it's best as a rear tyre because it doesn't have pronounced enough edge grip
Kenda Slant Six Pro tyre review
There are more than 10 different versions of this tyre on the Kenda website in 26in, 650b and 29er, in various widths and compounds. Initially we wanted to test the 29 x 2.2in but it didn’t come with Kenda’s SCT tubeless-ready technology. So we opted for a 2.35in with SCT and DTC — the latter acronym stands for Dual Tread Compound and is a claimed 60a durometer rubber in the centre with 50a on the side knob. We found it actually measures up at around 60/70a, so it’s quick rolling without providing much cornering grip.
With its shallow tread the Slant Six Pro is easy to get rolling and carries speed very well. Due to the large footprint and interlocking knobs, braking traction on dry trails is reasonable, but it tends to skid when it’s steep, rooty or there’s any moisture present. If you gradually lean into corners it feels predictable, but the low-profile edge knobs and large gaps between them mean that if you like to rail the turns it doesn’t offer enough stability.
The 2.35in size is medium weight but pretty big, and it did cause clearance issues on our test bike. If you have a modern 29er with typically short chainstays, this tyre may not fit.
