Planning a trip to the Lake District? We can’t help with the costs of fuel, gear or a well-earned pint at the end of the day, but at least cyclists can travel free on the Windermere Ferry next week (22 July – 29 July) as part of Cumbria County Council’s Drive Less See More Challenge Week.
The council, which acts as the operator of the Windermere ferry, has agreed to waive the £1 charge for cyclists travelling between Ferry Nab near Bowness and Far Sawrey for the promotion week.
It may not be a windfall of life-changing proportions, but in these difficult times, every little helps.
The week-long programme of events includes guided walks, bike rides, electric bike try-outs, stunt displays, a cycle roadshow and circus entertainment. Its purpose, says the council, is to reduce dependency on cars and encourage the use of more sustainable modes of transport.
