We just kept finding innovative features on the North Face pack you don’t get elsewhere, such as the magnetic clip for the hose, fixing easily and neatly to the chest harness after drinking, or the emergency/mates-attention-grabbing whistle built into the chest harness buckle.
The best innovation we felt was the cross pole ‘trampoline’ back system, holding the pack several inches off your back, no matter how much you loaded in. This allowed for a really comfortable feel and noticeably reduced sweaty back syndrome, also due to the mesh material used.
