For a long time, SDG has been trying to get other seatpost manufacturers interested in licensing its I-Beam technology, because it’s essentially a saddle maker. Not many firms have taken it on board, which is why SDG has redesigned its crude original.
For a 400mm post, this new carbon SDG is super-light. It has a slimmer 6061 aluminium cold-forged Micro System head, with a simpler one-key adjustment, which doesn’t flop around like the old design when it’s loose. The Micro System offers the same wide range of fore and aft adjustment as before and, although we think this is a good thing for bikes with extreme seatpost angles, it does cause the saddle to flex a bit more when adjusted to the limit.
On paper, the I-Beam is as light as the new CNT Easton EC-90, but is £70 cheaper. Obviously you’ll have to buy a saddle, but you could end up with a really light set-up and a bit of money still in your pocket.
