A seatpost is just a tube with a clamp on the end, but in this case there’s a bit more going on. Easton’s new EC70 has a carbon-fibre shaft made using the company’s Carbon Nanotube (CNT) technology, which has more carbon material and less resin (or glue) than most carbons, meaning greater strength and toughness. It’s also a taperwall tube, meaning it has different wall thickness depending on the load. A flat section down the back of the shaft is there to eliminate pinch loading from the seat clamp and consequently stop the height decals being scuffed off when you raise and lower the saddle. The head is forged and, compared to the older one-bolt EC70, it has less layback but can be adjusted for tilt by tightening one bolt and loosening the other, which is much more accurate.
If we have any criticism, it’s that the post comes up a bit short. We think Easton should offer this in a 400mm. Although £90 is a lot for a post, they don’t come any better than this.
